There was pandemonium at the early hour of today as three motorcyclists popularly known as okada riders lost their lives in an accident in Okitipupa.

The incident happened at a junction very close to Ondo State General Hospital, Okitipupa.

The ugly incident led to protests by okada riders in the town, as many resulted into self-help by setting the vehicle a Toyota picnic ablaze.

An eyes witness who spoke with SUNSHINE HERALD said, “The three deceased riders were said to have drunk excessively, thereby instigating their reckless driving which later led to their untimely death.

“The Toyota picnic driver was on his way to the hospital to check his family member who has been on the sick bed for some time.

“The driver could not press the brake at that because of the deceased close range, he lost control and killed three of the motorcyclists immediately.”

The picnic driver was however lucky, as the protesting okada riders tried aimlessly to kill the driver, as they went as far as going to a nearby Church to search for him, but he escaped with his two children who were there with him in the vehicle.

The three deceased persons were later identified as executive members of the okada riders association in Okitipupa and their bodies have been deposited at the Ondo state hospital morgue in Okitipupa.
