Farmers in their hundreds have taken to the street in Ore, Odigbo Local government area of Ondo state to protest against killings by Fulani herdsmen that have become prevalent in some parts of Nigeria.
The protest followed the recent killing of a farmer identified as Orimisan Balogun after he reportedly confronted some herdsmen for destroying his farmland.
The protesters mostly women lamented they had been raped and maimed by the rampaging dare devil herdsmen.
Holding leaves and chanting solidarity songs during the protest that took them to the Ore Police station and palace of Olore, the protesters threatened to take laws into their hands if something urgent was not done about the menace.
Leader of Ikale residents in Ore, Chief Owoleye Obilana said it was time the overbearing attitude of the herdsmen was immediately addressed.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relation Officer in Ondo State, Femi Joseph confirmed the incident.
The Police Spokesman, however said the command had arrested some persons in connection with the killing.
“Yes ,our command is aware of it and we are on top of the situation.
“Some persons have been arrested and they are helping us in our investigation.”
