Okitipupa LG boss flags off female football competition

The maiden edition of the Morenike Alaka Female Football competition has kicked off at the Okitipupa Local Government Field, Okitipupa.

Alaka, who is the Chairman of the Okitipupa Local Government Area says the aim is to create a platform for the discovery of teenage female football talents from secondary schools who are as fascinated by football as they are by their studies.

“The development of sports cannot be completed without an understanding of the role of youths in the total process. The potential of sports as a vehicle for national cohesion and development cannot be overemphasized.

“Sports development is fundamental towards promoting the sporting culture among young people in Nigeria,” Alaka added.

The Local Government chairman also expressed the belief that sports has a potential for addressing unemployment and idleness among youths in the country and Okitipupa in particular.

Alaka stressed drugs and alcohol addiction, criminal conduct and myriad forms of anti-social and disconcerting conduct which are destroying our youths can be shunned through their active involvement in sports programmes.

The opening match was between Ayeka Igbodigbo High School and Success Secondary School Okitipupa which ended in a penalty shoot-out in favour of Ayeka High School.

Participating schools were selected from private and public schools in Okitipupa Local Government.
