A masquerade has allegedly stabbed to death, a job applicant in Akure.
The deceased, Femi Makanjuola, 30, was said to be a neighbour of the masquerade.
The incident which happened last Saturday at Olomoyeye Street, Gaga area, Oke Aro has thrown residents of the area into mourning.
Makanjuola who resides with his brother, had secured a job with Dangote cement company in Benin city with the hope of resuming office on Monday, 8th October 2018.
He was said to be preparing to cook beans and had gone to a nearby shop for ingredients to spice up the food when he met his untimely death.
An eyewitness who spoke with SUNSHINE HERALD said the masquerade and his accomplice stabbed the man after he refused to give them money.
Our reporter further gathered that their had been an alteration between the alleged killer and the deceased some weeks ago.
The issue was however said to have been settled by mother of the slain man, Mrs. Monisola Awosanmi who also confirmed the preexisting animosity between her slain son and the father of the alleged killer.
When SUNSHINE HERALD contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Femi Joseph, he confirmed the incident.
He said the chief priest of the masquerade crew has been arrested while the costume of the masquerade have been confiscated.
Joseph said the police have started preliminary investigation into the matter.
A relative of the deceased, High Chief Oladimeji Abitogun, said the incident portends great danger for the survival of tradition.
He however denied the killer masquerade was from the Deji of Akure’s Palace, or from any royal family house.
Abitogun called on relevant authorities to sanitize cultural festivites with a view to curbing excesses of certain individuals who hide under the guise of tradition to perpetrate evil.
