Ilaje council chairman embarks on clean up exercise

The caretaker chairman Ilaje local government council, Hon. Aworetan Fayowole has embarked on a thorough clean up of unauthorised refuse dumping site at Igbokoda International market.

The unauthorized dumping site which is close to the international market, had become an eyesore to the environment not only to the people of the community but other visitors who normally come from far and near on every market day.

The refuse also constitutes a serious environmental hazard and health risk to the people living around.

The clean up exercise was carried out by C.R.C, a construction company, after it was mobilized with fund by the chairman, which paved way for them to bring their heavy equipment to clear the mess .

In his words to newsmen , the chairman said “This is just the beginning of what is about to happen in the local government.

It will continue in phases until whole Ilaje local government and Igbokoda in particular gets back to its glory as a business and commercial hub of the state, where business activities are being carried out in a serene and conducive environment, thereby showcasing the efforts of the APC-led government in Ondo state to truly transform the state.”

In his own remarks , the Director of Local Government Administration, Mr. J .J Monebi commended the chairman for the giant strides which he said was monumental in the history of the local government within the shortest time of his administration.

Also contributing , the Supervisor for Agriculture, Environment and Mineral Resources, Mrs .Enikanologbon Stella lauded the chairman for his timely intervention in evacuating the refuse before it degenerate into serious and impending health and death trap.

The Olu of Igbokoda, HRM, Odidiomo Afolabi (Larada 1) added that the chairman was a man of foresight, clear vision and well determined to transform lives and social economy of the people.

In attendance were the market women led by the Iyaloja of Igbokoda, Chief Mrs.Akinyomi.

The Iyaloja said: “Doing business for in this environment has been full of health risk, and we have been helpless .

“The last government was not willing and ready to evacuate the refuse for reason best known to them.

Other concerned individual who did not want their names in print also condemned the last government of PDP for not paying attention to the interest the people despite the huge revenue generated from the area.
