Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Governor of Ondo state has said the state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) does not need the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to reconcile ‘aggrieved’ members.
Mr. Akeredolu was speaking on the recent reconciliation moves led by the former Lagos state governor.
SUNSHINE HERALD recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari on February 7 appointed Mr. Tinubu to lead the consultation, reconciliation and confidence building team as a measure towards improving cohesion within the APC.
Mr. Buhari in a statement issued by Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity said the assignment will involve resolving disagreements among party members, party leadership and political office holders in some states of the federation.
But speaking during his maiden Media Chat tagged “An Evening with the Governor” which was broadcast on the state-owned media outlets, Mr. Akeredolu said the Mr. Tinubu has no business coming to Ondo state since there was no crisis.
He said, “There is stability in Ondo state, we don’t have problems. But for people outside might say that Ondo state has problem, or there is problem in APC, there is no problem in APC in Ondo state.
“So, I’m sure that the peacemaker, Bola Ahmed Tinubu you said was chosen will have no reason to come here, because we are at peace with ourselves. For us, it is a simple thing. We have a party, we have a chairman, and we will welcome anybody, we welcome people.
“The party is growing by leaps and bounds. Today some people joined us, people have been joining us. Somebody like Olusola Oke left, and he returned. If you say he left, if I even use the word left, it’s to say that he stayed with us for long. So, he has returned. I’m sure that now for this second coming, he will stay with us longer. And he came with his people.
“So, so many other people have returned, so many people have joined, at least from PDP. So many people have come to us, from Labour Party, from other parties have come to us, the party has grown up in a manner and all of us are happy about it that we have a solid party on ground.
“So where there is no problem, you don’t need a peacemaker, so that you don’t come and create problem. So we don’t need a peacemaker, all we need is that we are at peace with ourselves, so let us run the party the way we have been running it.”
